Berthe Morisot (1841-1895) is one of the most innovative and daring artists of her time. It was not easy for a woman to impose herself as an artist in the world of modern art. Contrary to the customs of society at the time, she led a public life as a painter, signing her paintings with her maiden name even though she was married. Several men artists supported her in her career, Manet being the first. With Monet, Degas, Renoir, Sisley, Pissarro, called « the Independents », she founded the Impressionist movement. During the 1st Impressionist exhibition held by Nadar, Morisot was the only woman painter out of 29 painters. And her presence caused a scandal in public opinion. According to me, Berthe Morisot plays a leading role in Modern Art. She freed herself from the rules, she experimented and explored the limits of the finished and the unfinished without hesitating to leave some of the canvas visible. This sketched character renders an impression of immediacy, which is at the heart of avant-garde research. While one concentrates on the background of this painting, he will find an audacious brush stroke, animating the figure with a desire for abstraction, a notion totally unknown at that time. By leaving her touch visible, Berthe Morisot imposed her subjectivity and her legitimacy as a painter. I like everything about this small painting by Vasily Kandinsky, the Lion Hunt (Löwenjagd). Painted in 1911, it is a delightful yet unusual representation much more naive and figurative than the modern landscapes he has accustomed us to. Adding to his collection of folk objects, Kandinsky was inspired by the traditional Bavarian reverse glass paintings from 1908. Kandinsky created his own reverse glass paintings with flat, stylized forms and decorated wooden furniture. In cases such as Lion Hunt, Kandinsky's handmade wooden frame, adorned with traditional Bavarian colored dot patterns, has survived. When speaking about Dorothea Tanning, one must think of Max Ernst. They met thanks to their mutual art dealer, Julian Levy, but it under strange circumstances, also thanks to Peggy Guggenheim, the phenomenon eccentric patron of arts whom had requested from Ernst, whom she had just gotten married to, to visit art studios for the purpose of an exhibition, «Thirty Women», bringing to light young and pretty women artists from Manhattan. Everything started with this painting, a self portrait where the artist had represented herself as a surreal fairy, bare chest, gaze lost in the distance, skirt of dark roots, which would be the turn on to their mythical union.. Tanning speaks about this life changing visit in the 1986 book « Birthday ». After this meeting, Ernst brook up with Guggenheim and moved in with Tanning. It was at the Bonjean gallery run by Christian Dior that Schiaparelli discovered the world of Leonor Fini, whom she asked to paint the portrait of her daughter Gogo. L’artisanat français sublimé par un japonais amoureux de la France. Bravo Shinsuke, ami poète ! 🌈 ✨💫 Artiste-peintre et créateur japonais, Shinsuke Kawahara a souhaité allier l'esthétique et la quiétude d'une maison de thé traditionnelle japonaise à la sérénité lumineuse apportée par le vitrail, héritage d'un patrimoine culturel français. Il l'a voulue mobile. Elle est donc entièrement démontable. Les menuisiers et les ébénistes de la Maison Philippe Hurel ont réalisé la structure en bois et la marqueterie selon le plan et le dessin de Shinsuke. Le vitrail dessiné par l'artiste a été réalisé par les artisans vitraillistes de l'Atelier ST. Il travaillait sur la théorie de la couleur pour structurer l’espace avec Mondrian, Kandinsky, Delaunay… Plusieurs rétrospectives ont été consacrées à CLOSON : Musée d’Art Moderne de Grenoble en 1961, Musée des Beaux-arts de Liège en 1969, Musée des Beaux-arts de Calais en 1980, Centre Pompidou en 1981, Musée d’Art Moderne de Liège en 1989… Né en 1888 à Liege, il a vécu toute sa vie en France. 1903, rencontre Piet Mondrian et Auguste Macke avec qui il reste ami toute sa vie. 1905, participe à l’Exposition universelle de Liège 1920, rencontre Claude Monet, qui lui a enseigné « la valeur du rythme de la couleur » 1932-1946, groupe Abstraction Création fondé avec Herbin 1947-1969, Salon des Réalités Nouvelles Et ça continue… je vous donnerais sa bio plus complète si vous le souhaitez.
